It would be great if there could be a built in search engine optimization in the next release. That means: No .htaccess redirection and all this stuff but a native SEO that generates a URL and meta tags based on the content and or title of the forum or thread.

More Suitable as Plugin

  1. Well technically, SEO needs the .htaccess file to work. As far as I know, there's no way to do it without that file. I do like the meta tags idea, though!

  2. The only way for the meta tags to work from what I can think of, would be while creating a new thread, and entering "Thread Tags". Unless otherwise, the tags are grabbed from the title or the post themselves which in that case, might be better as a meta description.
This is best as a plugin, but I'm not going to move it there yet.

  3. Thanks for not moving this to the plugin section because there allready are at least 3 SEO plugins. My idea is to implement this functions properly in the next release so that there is NO NEED for any SEO plugins. MyBB should natively generate these SEO friendly URLS and meta tags as far as possible.

  4. The only way to natively support SEO URLs is through .htaccess or equivalent.

There already is a "Thread Description" plugin which lets thread starters add a subtitle or description; this added information /could/ be thrown into a meta tag.
